Nov 2016 – We are thrilled to award a scholarship to Davide Riccardo at School of American Ballet (SAB)
Davide Riccardo, age 17, comes from Messina, Italy. He joined SAB for the 2015-2016 Winter Term and is now training in the Advanced Men’s class for a second year. Davide has performed in SAB’s Workshop Performances in June 2016, the New York Choreographic Institute’s spring and fall 2016 showings, and the fall 2016 Student Choreography Workshop. Davide relies upon a full tuition to be able to study at SAB. Recently, Davide was one of two SAB students featured by The New York Times for their #SpeakingInDance Instagram series. The story and video are available here:
Angel Shine is please to provide a gift to the Scholarship Fund in support of Davide, a talented young men to empower him to achieve his dreams. This scholarship was made in honor of the Zampa Family, our dear friends and donor, an extraordinary Italian family who believe in the power of the arts to transform children’s lives.
Choreographer George Balanchine and philanthropist Lincoln Kirstein founded SAB in 1934 with a mission to develop dancers for professional careers in ballet. Balanchine’s uniquely American ballet style, emphasizing musicality, speed, precision, and control, is the basis for the training program at SAB, which consistently produces more professional dancers than any other U.S. school.
